I did not think myself as a teacher leader before and now I am pretty excited seeing myself contributing to my team and my field as a teacher leader. Through ECI 508 Teachers as Leaders, I have come to see teacher leadership is necessary for an educator and understand that a good teacher leader is actively involved in the community. In my Chinese as a foreign language classes, there are also many things I could do to involve my students and myself in the community to facilitate students' learning while me being a teacher leader.
Reach Out to the Community
I am the head of Department of Public Relations at Chinese Students and Scholars Friendship Association (CSSFA) in NC State University and am resourceful on various events that Chinese international students events, which provides my students great opportunities to reach out the community (5 C's Standards 5.1)and use Chinese language in authentic situations (5 C's Standards 1.1& 1.3). Students had fun with Chinese club events outside classroom. For example, my students are encouraged to join our Chinese New Year celebration, talking to Chinese native speakers and experiencing Chinese culture. When they come back to class, they share their experience with others as a presentation in Chinese. |
